stephan TanSingapore, 1 June 2017 – UBM SES (formerly Singapore Exhibition Services) today announced that Stephen Tan, chairman of the company since January 2015, will retire from his position effective 30 June 2017.

Stephen joined the company in 1984 as joint deputy CEO, became chief executive in 1989, and relinquished this position in 2015. Under his decisive leadership and deep experiences across the industry, UBM SES had grown from strength to strength and is now one of the largest and most successful trade exhibition organisers in Asia.

He spearheaded the establishment of the Asian network of offices, in Bangkok, Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur, Manila, Shanghai and Vietnam.

Stephen’s contributions extend beyond UBM SES and UBM Allworld. He served as the President of the Singapore Association of Convention and Exhibition Organisers and Suppliers (SACEOS) for two terms, from 1989 to 1991, and again from 1992 to 1996. In 1996, he was elected as Vice President of UFI –The Global Association of the Exhibition Industry and served for three years, the first Asian to hold this office in the Executive Committee of this prestigious world body for exhibition organisers.

In recognition of his strong commitment and outstanding contributions to the MICE industry in Singapore, and in Asia, he was conferred the Special Recognition Award in 2007 at The Singapore Tourism Awards presented by The Singapore Tourism Board.

“I am grateful and honoured for the opportunity to be at the helm for 26 out of the 33 years spent with the company. To say that it has been a memorable journey would be a great understatement. I am very proud of what we have accomplished through the years, as individuals, as teams and as a company,” said Stephen.

“UBM plc brings to the table sound corporate vision, dynamic leadership and a deep pool of industry knowledge and best practices. There is no better time than now to announce my retirement. I have no doubt that with the joint forces of two strong entities, the future of UBM SES will be well paved for many years to come,” he added.

“I like to thank Stephen for the enormous contribution to UBM SES and to UBM Allworld in general, establishing the company as one of the clear leaders in Asia. We will miss his deep expertise and extensive network. I wish Stephen a lot of success in his future endeavours”, said Jime Essink, President & CEO of UBM Asia.
